About Us
Eiswald translates to "Ice Forest" in German, which is fitting for the part of Minnesota that we live, where the water and the trees meet. Eiswald is also the last name of Karla's Great Grandparents so we thought that is was a good fit for our KlM kennel name. We are a small family breeder and are members of KlM-GNA. We fell in love with the Kleine Munsterlander breed because we wanted a dog that did it all and did it all well, including being a part of the family. As a family that live in the land of 10,000 lakes it is only natural that we spend time at the lake and the duck hunting opportunities are plenty. Most of the hunting we do is grouse and woodcock hunting up at the hunting shack or nearby Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge and then a trip or 2 out to the Dakotas to shoot pheasants is usually part of the fall events. KlM-GNA appealed to us because of their breeding program and regulations, which has strict guidelines for the breeding program. Preservation of the Classic KLM is important to us as we would like our children and hopefully one day grandchildren to be able to enjoy the same type of dogs that we fell in love with.
I would be lying if I said that we weren't overwhelmed and nervous about committing to breeding and testing. During the entire process KlM-GNA members were very supportive and knowledgeable, every dog is different and everyone trains differently so their isn't a one size fits all. This is where the resources from the club are invaluable. Club members are always willing to lend support. We are blessed with a large field, and a few small bodies of water near us that we use for training. We host training nights at our house when weather and schedules permit. The dogs are so fun and smart that is makes you want to train and spend time with them.
